My mother once told me

I pricked my finger on the needle of her sewing machine as a very curious baby.  This sewing machine was one of dozens she bought to begin her own clothes-making business in the Philippines.  My first encounter with fashion began here with a drop of blood.

I moved to NYC when I was 3 years old.  My curiosity turned into study at Pratt Institute’s BFA fashion design program, then work experience in women’s wovens, sweaters, special occasion, and even buttons.  Immersed within the city’s celebration of culture and diversity eventually helped me realize that my own mixed heritage as half Filipino and half Polish-American could be a source of creative inspiration.

I now occasionally prick my fingers as the designer behind Anne Elizabeth.  I believe in the power of clothing to narrate the stories of who we are and where we come from, to re-define our standards of beauty and belonging
